one one six is please to announce its new upcoming exhibition by Benilda Pacheco Berretta and Eve Donnadieu

26th May – 2nd June 2017

A Collaboration between two Transcultural Photographers around the theme of Existential Migration.

Belonging To The In-Betweenness touches upon different aspects of the psychological journey of a specific type of migration fueled by the yearning for a home for one’s soul.  The launch will take place on Friday, 26th of May 2017 and for this event we’ll welcome special guest Gabriella Gay who will be performing poetry related to the general theme.

Gallery One One Six, located at the heart of the growing cultural quarter of Stoke, is proud to host two extensive travelling photographers, Evelyne Donnadieu from the South-West of France and Benilda Pacheco Beretta from the Bronx, New York.  They will be presenting their collaborative work, entitled Belonging To The In-Betweenness from Friday, 26 of May 2017 to 3 of June 2017.

Evelyne Donnadieu is a self-taught emerging photographer specialising in street and travel photography with a particular interest in places of transit and how people can be affected by this artificial life between destinations. She has shown work around Stoke-on-Trent and held a solo exhibition at Valentine’s Curious Closet in January 2016 about people’s transient situations in European airports.

Benilda Pacheco Beretta is a NuYorican emerging mixed-media artist living in Albi, France.  Beretta was born in Puerto Rico and raised in New York; consequently she identifies herself as a NuYorican.  Beretta uses original, found and created imagery to reframe trans-cultural, personal, and universal experiences in ways that can connect to a wider audience.  Beretta has various fine arts degrees from multiple nations. She has presented her work including, A Nuyorican Looks Back, Reflections in Words and Images, at Yale University, Penn State University, and School of Visual Arts in New York City. In February 2016 Beretta exhibited at Gallery 116, The Dark Side of the Light, with fellow artist Khadijah Sahraoui, which touched upon different aspects of loss, aloneness, violence, which often leads to depression.

“Our work in this exhibition is about how the desperate search for a soul-home can lead individuals to situations of limbo, which, after successive experiences of mutual rejection, nostalgia and loss, become their only bearable homes”. Evelyne Donnadieu
