Selfie Exhibition Blog so far

Show Your Selfie

The selfie is often seen as a modern day phenomenon, but throughout the years photographers have always taken self portraits of themselves and with new technology the selfie is now firmly embedded in western society. During the last 18 months we have also been documenting behind the scenes at 116 and the selfie is included within our own photography process. With a fun approach to the self portrait and photography we soon developed the idea for a large international Selfie exhibition in the summer of 2014. Although at that time our summer OPEN Exhibition took priority. So, we opened on the 20th November and it coincided with the Christmas Light events in the City Centre.  The hustle and bustle of the evening started off well, but we didn’t know just how well it would go. The evening progressed with a good mix of young and old, warm drinks and some with a little more alcohol content. Throughout the course of the night the Show Your Selfie project attracted many different people and I’ve never seen so many people waiting for a selfie photo in the pop-up photo studio than last Thursday. Three hundred people in four hours was a great first night opening and a very busy photo studio indeed. The green screen backdrop was also met with pleasant surprise, and people had lots of fun pretending to be somewhere else, or running away from dinosaurs.

We have now started to collect all the selfies submitted so far and we will be adding them to the Show Your Selfie wall over the next few weeks. Pop in to see if you can spot yourself on the wall. We would also like to say a big thank you to everyone who have submitted selfies so far, to all of you that have taken part in the green screen pop up studio, hand delivered selfie prints, and all the digital selfies we are receiving online. The selfie amount is nearing 500 but we need many more, tell others and if you have already done so, send us your selfie, and be a part of the World Record for Selfies in an exhibition.
